Type of Business

The first step to starting a business is making sure you set up the right type of business. There are a few options.

  • Corporation - for Profit or Non-Profit
  • Limited Liability Company
  • Professional Association (P.A.)
  • Partnership / Limited Liability Partnership
  • Sole Proprietorship

I can help you determine which business type may be a good fit for your business plans and understand the associated liabilities for the type you select.

Contract Preparation and Review

Once you’ve decided what type of business best fits your situation, we can assist you with other aspects of your business, including contract review and contract preparation, property and equipment leases, financing arrangements and insurance. When time is of the essence, we can help.

Employees

Once you’ve decided what type of business works best for you, it may be time to look into hiring or leasing employees. Occasionally, businesses have arrangements with independent contractors instead of or in addition to employees. We can discuss your options and the advantages of each situation.

Property Leases and Rental Agreements

After staffing, often your biggest expense is your lease. Before you sign a lease or rental agreement, you need to be familiar with the obligations that you and your landlord have. What happens if you need to expand your business? Have you thought about extending your lease? Sometimes, things don’t work out and you may need change your lease or end it early. These are things we’ll go over while we work with you in negotiating and evaluating your lease options.

Contracts

We can help prepare, review and negotiate professional service agreements, leases (property and equipment), purchase agreements, vendor agreements, licenses, terms of service, employment contracts, independent contractor agreements, and real estate contracts.

One of the toughest things facing new businesses is the fact that some contracts simply aren’t negotiable. In those instances, you need to make sure you read and understand all of the terms of those contracts and know what happens if things don’t work out as you plan. There may be other companies that provide the same service or product who have better contract terms for your business. We can help you through the legal terminology so that you know what you’re signing before you sign it.

Experience Counts

We have experience with helping business people and professionals in many types of businesses, including:

  • Healthcare professionals (physicians, dentists, nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), nurse practitioners (ARNPs), physical therapists, and physician’s assistants (PAs), and locum tenens professionals)
  • Small business owners and franchisees
  • Builders, contractors, small developers and subcontractors
  • Professionals, including CPAs, engineers and landscape architects
  • Landlords and tenants
  • Real estate professionals
